Traditionally, Freemasony has been a secretive organization where candidates required to know a Mason in order to Ask about becoming a Freemason. While it is still true that Candidates for Masonry must ask to become members (they cannot be invited or coerced into joining), we recognize that in a modern world, with so little known about our organization that is accurate and so many options for 'community' with likeminded men, it's important to present Freemasonry to good men as a worthy option -- You can't knock on a door if you don't know it is there! As a result, CanAm Masonic Lodge routinely holds Open House evenings. Brethren of the Lodge are encouraged to 'bring a buddy' and men from the general population who may not know a Mason are invited to attend as well.
Open House nights are attended by many Freemasons in addition to prospective candidates for membership. Each Brother is encouraged to 'bring a buddy' to the Lodge, so you may have been invited to attend the evening by a friend who is already a Mason. You might have simply seen an open invitation somewhere and decided to check out what's going on.
The evening will open with a presentation by Lodge Officers about Freemsonry in general and CanAm Lodge in particular (about 30 minutes). During this time, you are encouraged to learn as much as you can about Freemasonry by asking questions or simply listening/viewing the presentation. Light snacks are also available, provided by members as a kind of social event where you can meet-greet some Freemasons and have open discussions, ask questions, or simply make a buddy. There is also a tour of the Lodge where you will learn a bit more about the organization and how to apply for membership.
Absolutely nothing! This is an opportunity to learn about Freemasonry and to determine if being a Freemason is something that appeals to you. If you are a good man who is at least 19 years old, you are welcome to attend! We look forward to meeting you!
